Specialized Training Program Launched
Pune – A major education and technology hub in western India’s Maharashtra state, Pune is hosting a new specialized training program launched by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to equip “cyber commandos” with the skills to detect and prevent AI-driven crimes such as deepfakes, automated phishing, and identity fraud.
Six-Month Curriculum at DIAT

The program, conducted at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) in Pune, is being delivered in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists and academic experts. The curriculum focuses on identifying and neutralizing sophisticated AI-enabled cyber threats, which, according to GIREM data, are now involved in more than 82% of phishing attacks.
First Batch Already in Actio
The first batch of trainees—many from the Jammu & Kashmir Police—recently participated in “Operation Sindoor,” a cybercrime prevention mission. However, officials noted that few candidates from the Maharashtra Police passed the entrance exam, highlighting the need for broader digital literacy and specialized training in law enforcement agencies.
Boosting National Cybersecurity
Authorities expect the initiative to serve as a model for strengthening national cybersecurity defenses against the growing misuse of artificial intelligence in criminal activities.
